In Minnesota, the IRS rule is simple: your vehicle must be picked up by December 31 to count for this year’s tax deduction. With Nordic AutoGift, in partnership with Heritage for the Blind, we run Monday–Saturday pickups all the way through December 31, including Christmas week. In most Minnesota metro areas—Minneapolis, St. Paul, Duluth, Rochester, St. Cloud—if you contact us before early afternoon on a weekday, we can often schedule same‑day or next‑day towing. To guarantee a December 31 pickup slot, we strongly recommend you call or submit the 2‑minute form by December 27–28, with your signed title ready.
Nordic AutoGift is proudly local to Minnesota drivers. Whether you’re in Uptown Minneapolis, Frogtown in St. Paul, Eagan, Maple Grove, Moorhead, Mankato, or on the Iron Range, your donation supports Heritage for the Blind, a 501(c)(3) helping people who are blind or visually impaired. We’ll tow your car, truck, SUV, or van free of charge, in any condition—running or not, no inspection or repairs needed. You get a tax receipt that can often mean a $500+ deduction, and you clear your driveway before the worst winter snow hits. Beat the year‑end rush and lock in your deduction now.

Year-end tax deduction facts
Dec 31 controls which tax year you can claim
For car donations, the IRS looks at the date your vehicle is actually picked up or transferred—not the date you call. If your Minnesota pickup happens on or before December 31, you can generally claim the deduction on this year’s federal return.
Form 1098-C for larger vehicle deductions
When your donated vehicle is sold, Heritage for the Blind provides the information needed for IRS Form 1098‑C if required. This form documents the gross sale price and supports your deduction when the claimed value exceeds IRS reporting thresholds.
Deduction usually equals the charity’s sale price
Under IRS rules, your deduction is usually based on what Heritage for the Blind actually sells the vehicle for, not Kelley Blue Book retail. There are some exceptions when the vehicle is used materially by the charity, but most donors deduct the sale amount.
You’ll receive a timely written acknowledgment
Heritage for the Blind sends you an official written acknowledgment after your car is sold. This includes key tax details such as the vehicle identification and sale proceeds. Keep this document with your tax records to substantiate your charitable contribution.
Itemizing on Schedule A is required for deduction
To claim a federal tax deduction for your Minnesota car donation, you must itemize deductions using Schedule A. If you take the standard deduction instead, you typically cannot also deduct the donated vehicle’s value on your federal return.
